How values combine matters a great deal. On the Wild West Gold page, multipliers add together when more than one lands at once, so a 5x and a 3x make 8x. In BGaming’s Elvis Frog TRUEWAYS, every wild in free spins carries x2, x3 or x5, and the multipliers of each spin are summed and applied to all winning combinations. Multiplier wilds and RTP
RTP is the share of all stakes a slot is designed to return over a very large number of spins. The studio sets it for the whole game, with every multiplier already counted. A game with multiplier wilds pays less elsewhere, for example through its base paytable or how often wilds land, so that the total comes out at the chosen figure. The multiplier changes how the return is delivered, not how large it is.

Volatility and hit frequency
A multiplier does not make wins more frequent. It makes some wins much larger, which means more of the game’s return sits in a few big outcomes. That is why most multiplier-wild games are labelled volatile: of the 54 in our database with a studio label, 25 are very high, 26 high, 1 medium-high and 2 medium.
The most extreme example in our data is Nolimit City’s Tombstone R.I.P. Its game page lists 96.08% RTP, an “Insane volatility rating”, a 9.08% hit frequency and a maximum win of 300,000x the bet, the highest of any multiplier-wild slot we track. The median maximum win across 167 multiplier-wild slots that publish one is 10,000x.
Hit frequency shows no clear pattern. Among Nolimit City slots, which publish the figure, the 15 with multiplier wilds have a median of 25.09%, against 23.38% for the 102 without. The difference is small and the groups differ in other ways. Our hit frequency guide explains the measure.

Games whose multipliers sit on other symbols, such as the multiplier symbols in Gates of Olympus, are not included. “Top RTP” is the highest version the studio lists; volatility and maximum win are the studio’s own labels and figures.
