RTP is the share of total stakes a game is designed to return over a very large number of game plays. A 97.47% slot is built to return 97.47 units per 100 staked over the long run; the remaining 2.53 is the house edge. The Gambling Commission stresses that this average is reached over many plays, not in a single session.

Studios often certify the same slot at several RTP settings, and the casino chooses which one to run.
